Industrial Decontamination Services - Huntsville, AL


EFS was contracted to perform industrial remediation services at an industrial facility in Huntsville, Alabama. EFS was retained to perform industrial remediation activities in ten specific areas of the facility including: Multiple Spindle Production Room, Deburr, Plate Shop, Wastewater Treatment, Compressor Room, Chip Wringing, Bulk Oil, Chip Storage, West Side and Chemical Waste Storage areas.

The scope of services provided by EFS included:

  • Preparation and submittal of a site specific Health and Safety Plan
  • Waste characterization sampling, collection, transportation and disposal of non-hazardous and hazardous solvents and oils
  • Decontamination, removal, on-site staging and/or off-site disposal of equipment and piping utilizing two 5,000 psi hot-pressure washers and a 5,000 lb. capacity forklift
  • Cleaning, removal and off-site recycling of eight aboveground storage tanks (ASTs) ranging from 2,000 to 6,000 gallon capacities
  • Dismantling, rigging and shipping of the facility's wastewater treatment plant to an off-site location
  • Concrete trench and sump decontamination
  • Dismantling and on-site staging of three overhead cranes located in the Plate Shop area
  • Transportation and off-site recycling of steel and spent solvents and oils
  • Decontamination of floors and walls utilizing the 5,000 psi hot pressure washers
  • Collection, containerization and management of all decontamination rinsate liquids
  • Site restoration activities including installation of 4,000 psi concrete in decontaminated concrete sumps and trenches

EFS provided Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 40-hour HAZWOPER-trained personnel and equipment to accomplish the scope of work. All work activities were performed in accordance with OSHA and Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM) regulations. The project was performed on schedule and under budget within a four week period.
