Industrial Decontamination Services - Dayton, OH

 

EFS was contracted to perform industrial decontamination services at a facility in Dayton, Ohio. The facility underwent closure and property transfer activities in the spring of 2006. EFS was retained to perform decontamination activities in four separate building at the facility. The facility was more than one million square feet under floor and included three production areas and a wastewater treatment plant.

The scope of services provided by EFS included:

  • Preparation of a site specific Health and Safety Plan.
  • Waste characterization sampling, collection, transportation and disposal of more than 3,000 cubic yards of hazardous waste impacted by hydrofluoric acid and heavy metals.
  • Decontamination of lead, chrome, zine and barium impacted buildings.
  • Cleaning of 15 aboveground storage tanks (ASTs) ranging from 2,000 to 65,000 gallon capacities.
  • 5,000 feet of concrete trench and sump and 2,000 feet of air handling tunnel decontamination.
  • 20,000 feet of process pipe removal and disposal.
  • 5,000 feet of hazardous duct decontamination and removal.
  • Decontamination of floors and walls utilizing 10,000 pst hot pressure washers, grinders and extractant solvents.
  • Hydrofluoric, hydrochloric, sulfuric and nitric acid pipe neutralization and removal.
  • Collection, containerization and treatment of decontamination rinsate liquids through the on-site wastewater treatment plant.

EFS provided Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 40-Hour HAZWOPER trained personnel and equipment to accomplish the scope of work. All work activities were performed in accordance with OSHA and Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (OEPA) regulation.
